…a youth choir comprising young people of a variety of ages, from a variety of backgrounds which performs throughout the local community, including regular opportunities to sing with a full orchestra at big public events alongside Chorus of Dissent.
Evenings at Home
Young Dissenters are not currently rehearsing weekly. Instead, we recently produced a multi-media musical involving all pupils and their families from our neighbouring St Matthias School in some creative way or another.
Funded by our charity DissentersArtsN16 and working with North London musician and composer Suzy Davies, Evenings at Home was inspired by the ideas of pioneering Stoke Newington educationalist Anna Barbauld. It was a sell-out success, and we shall be relaunching YD in the not too distant future. Watch this space…
History
The Young Dissenters pilot project was generously sponsored for 18 months by local independent financial advisers Ruth Whitehead Associates and now the charity which was set up in 2017 to create artistic and cultural opportunities for our community DissentersArtsN16 has raised enough money for young voices to raise the roof again.
Young Dissenters gave young people from a variety of backgrounds a fantastic experience of singing with a composer, performing some concerts with our adult community choir Chorus of Dissent (including selling out Stokey Town Hall) – and reached the dizzying heights of recording the CD A Hum About Mine Ears with internationally acclaimed vocalist and composer Clara Sanabras.

I was completely bowled over by the Young Dissenters and the whole performance on Saturday.
