Chorus of Dissent and the Elastic Band proudly present their own semi-staged version of this iconic piece, performed in English. Bach’s dramatic setting of the Easter Passion play is adapted for the 21st century. Featuring the first-ever female evangelist, broadcaster and vocalist Jumoke Fashola.
Also a jazz singer and actress, Jumoke currently presents J to Z on BBC Radio 3 and Sunday Breakfast for BBC Radio London. Her other radio credits include, Everywoman (BBC World Service), Pause for Thought (BBC Radio 2), You and Yours (BBC Radio 4).
As a vocalist, she has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall alongside Dionne Warwick, performed with Bobby McFerrin at the Meltdown Festival, Royal Festival Hall, sung Handel at the London Arena, performed alongside the Royal Ballet for the Gary Avis & Friends Benefit Gala and was a featured singer at Tate Modern.
She performed Song for a Phoenix for the Coventry Olympic Torch Relay and was a volunteer dancer at the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony. Her debut album The Condition of Being A Woman was released in 2014.
Jumoke is the creator and host of the monthly Jazz Verse Jukebox (which had a seven year residency at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club) based at Hoxton Hall.
