Belshazzar’s Feast LAST FEW TICKETS
Chorus of Dissent & the Elastic Band proudly present Belshazzar’s Feast (1931) Walton, baritone solo Thomas Nießer | Symphony No. 5 – finale (1919) Jean Sibelius | plus special guests The Lyons Mouth.
This is a concert of huge contrasts. Taking centre stage is the dramatic, bloody, visceral telling of the appearance of the writing on the wall and Belshazzar and Babylon’s downfall, set by Walton with such vivid aural word painting. We frame that with two very different performances. The first, showcasing the Elastic Band at full strength, is of the glorious finale to Sibelius’ 5th Symphony, depicting swans in flight. The main horn theme is thrillingly serene and majestic, in complete contrast to the Walton.
We are truly privileged to welcome the Lyons Mouth as our guest artists. This brilliant young vocal ensemble will lead us through several centuries of (mostly) a cappella repertoire, another fitting contrast to the mighty choral and orchestral forces assembled for Belshazzar at the end.
With special guests, full orchestra and the usual swirl of Dissenters panache, it’s going to be an incredible choral outing… AND IT’S GOING TO SELL OUT LAST FEW TICKETS HERE
