Sold out two weeks in advance, our Christmas Concert on Sunday 15 December was by all accounts our best one ever. St Matthias Church was brimming with Christmas cheer and our founder, director and conductor Ruth Whitehead programmed the entire concert from start to finish to include a merry mix of the traditional to the beautifully obscure. With plenty of singing opportunities for choir and audience alike, we were also joined by soloists Daidree Tofano and Lewis Tanner. But because this was a Chorus of Dissent concert, we didn’t leave it there, oh no far too simple! We had fire eating, a twinkle of harpsichord played by the amazing Thomas Ang and we were also joined by lutenist Kriistina Watt. Julie Shaw produced her sopranino recorder and we danced in the aisles to In Dulci Jubilo. Massive thanks also due to our orchestra the Elastic Band for their incredible playing, to Holly & Ava our guest treble soloists, and even more thanks to everyone who came along. Loads of lovely comments, see below.
‘I’d be stuck to choose a favourite; Blackbird (Lennon/McCartney) thank you Lewis, and See Amid the Winter Snow with Daidree, and sweet singing in the choir’
‘Magnum was a pleasure and Blackbird was genius’
‘Christmas isn’t Christmas until Chorus of Dissent sing Hark the Herald with descant, so now it is!’
‘What a concert! My pals said it was the best Christmas concert they’d ever been to and want to go on the waiting list for next year’s tickets already’
‘The concert was terrific, and I loved the two lute performances. The Vivaldi is a favourite and it sounded lovely’
