Chorus of Dissent always responds rapidly to world events, presenting fundraiser concerts to support people in need.
We have therefore changed the programme for our spring concert to reflect our concern (and rage, horror and despair) about the plight of people in the Ukraine.
We’re still doing the Faure Requiem, but will be adding Verdi’s Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves plus a unique choral and orchestral arrangement of the Great Gate of Kyiv from Mossorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Our professional orchestra, the Elastic Band, will join us with enhanced numbers, and the sound will be glorious.
Local financial advisers Ruth Whitehead Associates will sponsor the orchestra and other costs, so all audience and ticket sale proceeds will go towards the Ukrainian refugee effort
As part of Chorus of Dissent’s 10th anniversary year, the concert will not be preceded by rehearsals but by an all-day workshop culminating in the performance at the end of the afternoon. On a sunny day in June 2012, the new choir surprised their audience by also performing Queen’s Somebody To Love, and the Dissenting programming ethos was born.
Singers will be paying £25 to take part, as a facet of the significant fundraising and community donations for which CoD have become known.
